Praying Forward

Here’s the gist of my new mission: I’m headed to a continent that is home to great cathedrals but awash in spiritual darkness. I’ll be with a team working to make disciples who make disciples in immigrant communities. Many of these people are lost in a deceptive religion of shame and fear. And from this context, I’ll be pursuing the vision God’s given me for developing technology tools and media strategies to accelerate the growth of discipleship movements in communities and cities around the world.

There are three things that are clear in my mind. First, it will only happen if God provides exponential, super-natural quantities of power, provision, and wisdom — far more than I can even imagine. Second, this is a spiritual battle; our Enemy has a stronghold on this continent and amongst the people, both natives and immigrants. The reality is that no kingdom ever takes the territory of another without battle.  Continue

A New Season

I’ve been eager to share some big news, but had to wait until it was official… I have accepted a missionary appointment with Greater Europe Mission (GEM). After a lot of prayer, reflection, and counsel I realized that it was time to boldly launch into a new season of ministry. I am leaving Campus Crusade for Christ with a heart thankful for the privilege of serving with both the US Campus Ministry and Global Media Outreach.

A walk of faith is rarely a clear, level, path. But lately it’s seemed more like climbing a ladder… in the fog.  I know what rung I’m standing on, and I am compelled by love and obedience to reach for the next one up. I can only trust that this ladder of faith is firmly anchored on God’s loving and wise sovereignty. The base stands on His promises; the top reaches to the dreams He’s planted in my heart.  Continue

By Faith

I’ve been feeling a bit like Abraham lately. “It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land… He went without knowing where he was going.” (Hebrews 11:8)

It’s become clear that my next step in life and ministry is somewhere other than San Jose. But I’m not sure where that will be…. Over the last few months, I’ve been exploring several different ministry options. God has also been re-igniting a vision that he first planted in me a few years ago. In fact, many of the experiences and the new understandings God has brought my way since then have further expanded and shaped this vision.  Continue

Pruned

For nearly 12 years, I have pursued God’s call to invest my life in the Great Commission. My vision has been bringing Jesus’ message to the world using the Internet and other digital media technologies.  This journey has brought twists and turns, challenges and triumphs — all of which, in some way, have clarified my vision, tempered my resolve, and grown my faith.

Last September, Global Media Outreach came to a significant crossroads. The CEO, one of the three who began GMO in 2004, left to pursue another calling. This brought about a strategic realignment in order for GMO to refocus and continue its mission. Processes were reviewed, priorities reaffirmed, and resources adjusted. And it forced some painful reductions in staff… including me.  Continue

Kingdom Come

A quote from Jesus hangs on the front wall of the GMO office. “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (). It’s a reminder of our mission, message, and outcome: this broken world is going to replaced with a new one.

Matthew 5-7 is traditionally known as The Sermon on the Mount; but I think it might better be termed, a “declaration of dependance” for the Kingdom of God. Here Jesus upends mankind’s entire worldview: The downtrodden will be victors. The poor become rich. What you do with your heart is every bit as important as what you do with your hands. Make the as-yet unseen Kingdom your priority, and everything works out.  Continue

The Interns of 2012

Our summer intern project is definitely on my list of things that go by way, way to fast. It’s hard to believe that 8 weeks could go by so fast.

Yet I’m thankful for each and every one of the young men and women God brought into my life and ministry this summer. It was truly an experience overflowing with God’s glory and goodness. God was glorified in the time we had together, the community that was formed among them, their service through GMO, and the growth in each one of them.  Continue
